At PREMIER X on September 19th at Del Mar High School in San Jose, one of the most intense in ring rivalries enters its third chapter when Timothy Thatcher (3-2-1) and Joe Graves (2-0-1) tangle once again.
The first two battles of this classic in-ring rivalry have been two of the best matches in the young history of PREMIER. These two grapplers first collided at PREMIER VII on November 22nd, 2014 in Gilroy, CA in a 15-minute time limit draw that ended up as the 2014 PREMIER 2014 Match Of The Year. The rematch took place at PREMIER VIII on March 20th, 2015 in San Jose, but this time around Joe Graves locked in a rear naked choke to submit Timothy Thatcher. It was another instant classic. Both competitors moved on and secured victories at PREMIER IX this past June in Gilroy, but the submission loss to Joe Graves continues to burn a fire in Timothy Thatcher.
“I need to do battle with Mr. Graves again. Not because in two outings I haven’t been able to defeat him and not because he made me submit in our second contest,” said Timothy Thatcher. “Mr. Graves is an incredible grappler so there is no shame in the past two results. Peaks and valleys.”
Timothy Thatcher currently stands as one of the top Athletes on the pro wrestling scene today. Thatcher’s phone rings daily from promoters checking on his availability because a local competitor has called him out. But this time, he was the one calling in to request a match.
“The caller ID on my phone said Timothy Thatcher and I couldn’t believe it,” said PREMIER President and Matchmaker John LaRocca. “Thatcher usually isn’t the one calling, so when he did, I knew this must be important. He wanted a rematch with Joe Graves at our next event at PREMIER X and I drew up the contract right away.”
“The reason I need to stand across the ring again from Mr. Graves is because I need to stay focused. Focused on my time in the gym, on the mat, and in my diet. Focus. Without that, all is lost,” explained Thatcher. “Mr. Graves is a competitor that keeps me focused. His tenacity and skill are a true test to mine and if I am not at my best, I will lose. A pro wrestler needs to be at the top of his or her abilities at all times. That is a hard pace to keep. Mr. Graves will help me keep that pace. Mr. Graves will help me exceed that pace.”
